Source:https://guardian.ng/news/cult-clash-claims-8-lives-in-akwa-ibom/

The Police in Akwa Ibom have confirmed the death of eight people in a supremacy cult clash in Esit, Eket Local Government Area of the state.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Macdon Odiko confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria
(NAN) on Friday in Esit Eket.

Odibo said that the report got to him last week.

He said that the Police was taking steps to ensure that they maintained law and order in council headquarters and its environs.

Two rival cult groups – Vikings Confraternity and Black Axe – had engaged in a clash of supremacy.

A source, who pleaded anonymity, told the NAN in Esit Eket that the clash started at a friend’s night programme when some boys accosted a Vikings carrying bag in his hands at midnight at Etebi in Esit Eket.

According to the source, the Black Axe group searched the bag and discovered that it contained locally made pistols
which they seized.

The source said that the Vikings boy left in anger to meet his group and they re-enforced to the friend’s night programme at about 3.00 a.m. and killed one person from Black Axe at Etebia where the fracas started.

It was gathered that four members of Vikings and four from Black Axe were been killed in the clash that ensued thereafter.

Two houses were also burnt, including the family house of the leader of the Legislative Council in Esit Eket.

NAN reports that some young men in Esit Eket had deserted their homes to other local government areas for safety.

Odiko remarked that the Police were doing their bests to restore peace and order in the community.

“The Police will not tolerate any act that will lead to the breakdown of law and order in the state,’’ he said.

He warned perpetrators of such act to desist from such act or that they would face the wrath of the law.

“We are on the trail of those who are breaching the law and soon the full wrath of the law will catch up with them.’’

NEW-BLACK MOVEMENT

“NEO-BLACK MOVEMENT SIMPLY MEANS NEW-BLACK MOVEMENT. ANY BLACK PERSON WORLD-WIDE CAN BELONG TO THE NEO-BLACK MOVEMENT. IT IS NOT THE NEO-NIGERIAN MOVEMENT OR THE NEO-AFRICAN MOVEMENT OR EVEN THE NEO-BENIN MOVEMENT. IT IS THE NEO-BLACK MOVEMENT. AFTER NIGERIA, BRAZIL HAS THE HIGHEST NUMBER OF BLACK PEOPLE ABOUT 80 MILLION AND THE UNITED STATES WITH ABOUT SIXTY MILLION. IF WE PUT THOSE TWO COUNTRIES TOGETHER WE HAVE ALMOST THE POPULATION OF NIGERIA . THE SURVIVAL OF THE NEO-BLACK MOVEMENT LIES IN SETTING UP BRANCHES IN BLACK COUNTRIES WITH THE BLACK INDIGENES OF THE PLACE. I WANT TO SEE BRAZILIAN BRANCHES AND AMERICAN BRANCHES OF THE NBM WITH AFRICAN AMERICAN MEMBERS NOT BENIN MEN LIVING IN AMERICA. NBM IS NOT A CLUB. IT IS A MOVEMENT. MOST OF THESE PEOPLE CREATING PROBLEMS IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES THINK NBM IS A CLUB AND IN CITIES LIKE LONDON GATHER TO DRINK PEPPERSOUP AND DANCE. THESE MEN SHOULD BE TOLD TO FACE THEIR JOBS,BUSINESSES AND FAMILIES AND LEAVE NBM ALONE. MOST HAVE NO UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT NBM IS ABOUT AND THINK BECAUSE THEY LIVE IN LONDON OR NEW YORK THEY ARE BETTER THAN THE AXE-MAN IN ABA. I ALWAYS TELL THEM THAT A LIZARD THAT LEAVES NIGERIA AND GOES TO LONDON IS STILL A LIZARD AND NOT A CROCODILE. IT MIGHT BE A LONDON LIZARD BUT BEING IN LONDON DOES NOT TURN IT INTO A CROCODILE. MOST OF THE SO CALLED FOREIGN ZONES ARE POPULATED BY ALL MANNER OF CHARACTERS FROM NIGERIA MOST HUSTLING. HOW CAN SOMEBODY WHO DOES NOT HAVE HIS PAPERS OR WHO IS PURSUING FOUR JOBS EVERY DAY HAVE TIME FOR THE NEO-BLACK MOVEMENT. WHEN I LIVED IN LONDON SEEING MOST OF THESE MEN JUST MADE ME UNHAPPY AS MOST WERE JUST OLD JAGUDAS FROM NIGERIA. SOME ONE LIVING IN AMERICA CALLS HIMSELF AN FF AND IS REJOICING THAT DOLLAR IS ONE TO 500 NAIRA. NOW WHAT SORT OF FF IS THAT. IT REMINDS ME OF THE MONKEY WHO WAS REJOICING WHEN THE TREES IN THE FOREST WERE BEING CUT FORGETTING THAT IT WAS ITS OWN VERY HOME THAT WAS BEING DESTROYED. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT GIVES ME HOPE IS THAT KOROFO THE KULT OF THE ONDERGROUND IS ALREADY CAUSING CONFUSION IN THE MIDST OF THE INTERNAL ENEMIES OF THE NEO-BLACK MOVEMENT. UNTIL THEY EMBRACE THE REAL VISION OF THE NBM ,NOTHING WILL GO RIGHT FOR THEM.MANY OF THEM ARE ON LOGGERS SPYING ON WHAT WE ARE DOING HERE BUT KOROFO IS ALREADY AT WORK. WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT, WE SHALL FLOAT PROPER BRANCHES OF THE NBM ALL OVER AFRICA AND THE BLACK WORLD WHICH WILL DISCUSS THE SERIOUS BUSINESS OF PAN-AFRICANISM AND NEO-BLACKISM NOT PEPPERSOUP DRINKING AND DANCING.” – FF IBN GODIDI

The Police Command in Kaduna State said its operatives have arrested a notorious armed robber and cultist and recovered a Baretta pistol from him.

The command’s spokesperson, ASP Mohammed Jalige, made the disclosure in a statement in Kaduna on Sunday.

Jalige said that the command acted on credible intelligence received through the DPO Kabala West on May 8, at about 07:00hrs.

“We were reliably informed that a suspected armed robber responsible for terrorizing and dispossessing unsuspecting commuters of their valuables on Nnamdi Azikwe Expressway, Kaduna, was sighted at a usual spot.

“On getting a hint of the situation, the operatives of the command swiftly swung into action, carefully traced the location and succeeded in apprehending the suspect.”

He said that the suspect hails from Dekina LGA in Kogi and lives in Karatudu Unguwan Romi, Kaduna.

“We recovered in his possession 92G Elite Centurion Baretta Pistol loaded with six rounds of 9mm ammunition,” Jalige said.

According to him, the suspect confessed to being a member of the Black Axe Cult Group and where he acquired the prohibited firearm.

“The operatives have expanded investigation with a view to arresting other members of the gang and recover their operational weapons after which the suspect would be charged to court,” he added.

Jalige said that the command has urged communities to work closely with the police to ensure success in the fight against criminal elements.

He said the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Umar Muri has assured all those who volunteer information to police of their safety and absolute confidentiality.

Technically Incorrect: We Aren’t “BLACK AXE” Says ‘Black Axe’.

NBM whining about libel. Really would be helpful if journalists, prosecutors, academics etc dropped the “Black Axe” and called them by their actual real name. Call a spade a space for Christ’s sake.

There’s: “Popularly known as” and then there’s: Correct.

Neo Black Movement (NBM) of Africa, a group which describes itself as Pan Africa socio-cultural organisation, has disassociated herself from BBC online news report dated 26th of April 2021 alleging that her members were arrested at various

Cities in Italy, insisting that it neither a criminal group nor “Black Axe” confraternity. While maintaining that the group has nothing to do with “Black Axe”, it says it is libellous for any law enforcement agency or media to associate NBM of Africa with Black Axe.

In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, Mr. Oluwatosin Dixon NBM of Africa threatened that will not fail to institute legal action against any person, group of persons or corporate organization that associate her with any Criminality.

The statement read in part, “NBM of Africa being a Pan Africa socio-cultural organization, promotes equity and social justice. We condemn all form of criminality & social vices in every society around the world.

“In November 2019, the Italian Court sitting in Palermo City nay Corte di Assie Palermo City declined to declare NBM of Africa a criminal organization based on uncontroverted overwhelming evidence in favour of NBM of Africa’s members charged with various offences in that regard, that judgement is still subsisting.

“The Italian police authorities should therefore arrest & prosecute whomever is found wanting for whatever crime the individual must have committed against the laws of the land. No reference should be made to NBM whenever individuals commit crime.

“The Organization has not collectively committed or involved in any crime hence its rights as a duly registered Organization should be respected.”

Cultists hold Ikere-Ekiti by the jugular: 6 dead, several wounded; Police arrest 45

Source: https://www.vanguardngr.com/2021/04/cultists-hold-ikere-ekiti-by-the-jugular-6-dead-several-wounded/

IKERE-Ekiti, reputed to be home to the largest numbers of professors in Ekiti State, is also the second-largest town in Ekiti State, with a population of 147, 355 (2006 census), second only to Ado-Ekiti, the State Capital, has been in the news recently for the wrong reasons.

Precisely six months ago, the town was practically brought to its knees, when the #EndSARS protesters attacked and razed all the police stations in the community, including the Area Command’s office, situated along the University of Education, Science and Technology road.

Also, property worth hundreds of millions of naira was either destroyed by the irate youths or eaten up by the inferno.

Since then, Ikere-Ekiti has been under-policed, thus, giving room for criminals and crime to fester and thrive, cultists and other criminals roam the streets freely with reckless abandon.

Bloody cultists clash Just like Saturday, October 17, 2020, another ill-fated Saturday, April 17, 2021, will forever remain indelible in the minds of the people of the agrarian community.

The day started like every other day in the weekend, a day exclusively reserved for parties popularly known as ‘Owanbe’ especially in the South-West of Nigeria. The town was in a festive mood, people were at different event centers, having fun without any sense of foreboding that the day would end in a blood bath.

By the time it was near dusk, six persons lay dead, while several persons sustained varying degrees of injuries. The cultists had struck.

The genesis of the crisis Trouble started when one of the victims, Adebanjo Ojuale, alleged to be the leader of Black Axe Confraternity, aka ‘Ayee’ came into town on Friday, 16th of April, 2021, from Port-Harcourt to attend the marriage ceremony of one of his members.

Ojuale was said to be the armourer and powerful force behind ‘Ayee confraternity’ before relocating to Port-Harcourt in search of greener pasture. He was said to have come into town with his girlfriend, Radeke (surname withheld) who is also an indigene of the town to attend the ceremony.

It was learned that Radeke, an apprentice, before she traveled out of the town with his boyfriend was said to be a girlfriend of a strong member of another rival cult group popularly known “Eiye confraternity” in the town.

The arrival of Ojuale in the company of his girlfriend at the scene of the marriage ceremony held at Ikere City Hall, located at Odo-Oja area of the town, was said to have infuriated some members of Eiye confraternity who were at the ceremony.

Ojuale was said to have been challenged by members of Eiye confraternity over his audacity for dating an ex-girlfriend of their leader, but the matter was later settled by some elderly people at the marriage ceremony.

Ojuale, in company with his gang, later shifted their merry-making to a relaxation centre in the area at about 5:pm, all of a sudden two masked men appeared on a motorbike and opened fire, shooting sporadically, sending everybody within the vicinity scampering for safety.

At about 8:30 pm on that fateful day, the leader of the black axe confraternity, Ojuale was isolated and shot dead, about two poles to the scene of the merry-making joint.

Revenge mission

Shortly after he was murdered, members of his cult group took over the streets of the town, tormenting and harassing residents of the town, who on hearing the booming of gunfire, had retreated into their homes.

The cultists took over the ancient community for several hours, staccato sound of gunfire rend the air, searching house-to-house looking for the relatives and family members of some notable members of Eiye confraternity in retaliation of the death of Ojuale.

Shop owners and merrymakers immediately disappeared and in a split second, the town became a ghost town, leaving only the gun-wielding cultists running riot. By the time the dust settled five people had been killed and several others critically injured.

The situation was, however, brought under control following the deployment of a detachment of mobile policemen from Ado-Ekiti.

Also, the combined team of security agents were seen patrolling the whole town, while vehicles both commercial and private were subjected to stop and search by the police.

45 people arrested

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ekiti State Command, Mr. Sunday Abutu, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said the incident happened between Saturday night and the early hours of Sunday.

Abutu added that 10 suspects were earlier arrested on Sunday, while another set of 35 was arrested on Monday in connection with the bloody cult clash.

The police spokesman confirmed that six persons lost their lives, while their bodies have been deposited in the morgue. He said: “I can confirm to you that it was a violent cult clash between two rival groups. “About six persons have been killed as a result of a show of strength between the two nefarious groups.

“We have begun serious operations thereby combined forces of the men of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Amotekun corps and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps.

“Those arrested are in our custody and by the time we conclude our investigations, they will be charged to court accordingly. We have begun investigations on the matter, while the remains of those killed during the clash have been deposited in the morgue of Ondo Ekiti State Specialist Hospital until we conclude investigations on the matter.”

Unemployment responsible for violence—

Olanipekun

A prominent indigene of the community and also a legal icon, Wole Olanipekun decried the killings and the incessant violent clashes in the community, blaming it on youth idleness as a result of unemployment Olanipekun, a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, said: “How can our youths and our future kill in the name of cultism? We need to help the government to engage our unemployed youths. This shouldn’t be left to the government alone. The killing has portrayed us in a bad light. We shouldn’t be in the news for negative reasons.

“I was saddened when I heard that six of our youths were killed. We need to look inwards and protect our town from being turned into a killing field.”

Angry monarch threatens to invoke curse

The Ogoga of Ikere Ekiti, Oba Adejimi Adu, urged parents to guard their children against arson attacks, political thuggery and cultism, just as he threatened to invoke the spirit against those perpetrating crime in the town.

Oba Adu said: “We will invoke the spirit against cultists because we won’t allow them to spoil the reputation of this town. We will place a curse on them, but before we do that, they must change and if they refuse to change, they will face the consequences. “How can people be doing cultism? What is it for? What are they trying to gain? What is their mission? My people should prevent them from making Ikere-Ekiti a safe haven for bad boys. We won’t allow it.”

The monarch, who bemoaned that it was only Ikere that police stations were razed in Ekiti, during the EndSARS protest, said: “It is a failure of the parents for the children to go into thuggery. Don’t allow anyone to use you for thuggery. Let us try and guard our children.”

We saw it coming— Community leader

Similarly, a community leader in the town, Chief Olubumi Aribisala, said it was unfortunate that the situation occurred few weeks after the town embarked on three days prayer to wade off bloodshed in the town.

He explained that the first suspect, Ojuale, who was shot dead during the clash, was expelled from the community over what he called cult-related activities in the town before he later resurfaced on the fateful day the incident occurred.

Also speaking, an eyewitness, who incidentally was one of the victims and run over by a motorcycle, has since been discharged from the hospital. She said had closed shop and was rushing home when a group of boys emerged from the street and started shooting sporadically.

The victim described the activities of cult members in the town as worrisome in recent time, said she was hit by a motorcyclist, who was also scampering for safety.

She appealed to leaders of the community as well as Ekiti State Government to urgently curb the activities of the nefarious group, saying incessant clashes of cultists in the community have maimed and sent several people to the grave, adding that it has also destroyed property worth several millions of naira.
